2010 Reports North Carolina Investigation: Conclusion.
Witness: Tim Peeler City: Casar County: Cleveland State: North Carolina
June 15th 2010, news reports began to circulate about a 911 call made by Mr. Peeler, in reference to a Bigfoot on his property. Mr. Peeler reported to a Cleveland County 911 dispatcher, that he was concerned this animal may be trying to take his dogs, and wanted permission to kill the animal if it approached again.
June 17th 2010 an American Bigfoot Society investigator located in North Carolina drove to the home of the witness, Mr. Peeler. The investigator conducted an initial interview with Mr. Peeler and completed a walk of the property. Nothing unusual was reported about the property by the investigator, but Mr. Peeler agreed to allow the American Bigfoot Society investigator unrestricted access of the property to conduct research. It was decided between Mr. Peeler and the American Bigfoot Society investigator the first date(s) for investigation would start June 26, 2010 and end June 27, 2010.
The investigator then returned home, and called Melissa Hovey and Wayne Larsen to discuss his meeting with Mr. Peeler. The investigator then informed Melissa and Wayne that Tom Biscardi of "Searching for Bigfoot Inc. " had phoned Mr. Peeler a number of times, along with news and other media outlets. The American Bigfoot Society investigator reported that Mr. Peeler was being overwhelmed with phone calls and visitors to his home over this event. It was at this time it was decided that Melissa would contact Mr. Peeler and discuss American Bigfoot Society involvement on his property.
Melissa then hung up with the American Bigfoot Society investigator and called Mr. Peeler.
During this conversation Mr. Peeler asked Melissa if she had ever heard of Tom Biscardi? Melissa said she had. Mr. Peeler then asked Melissa to tell him what she knew of Mr. Biscardi, as he was requesting permission to access his property with investigators.
Melissa then informed Mr. Peeler of the Georgia Hoax, and discussed with Mr. Peeler that if Tom Biscardi would be investigating his property or anyone involved with "Searching for Bigfoot Inc." the American Bigfoot Society would not be interested in being on his property. Melissa also informed Mr. Peeler the American Bigfoot Society would not be interested in conducting investigations if his property would continue to be overrun by media and others identifying themselves as Bigfoot investigators. Mr. Peeler asked, "Why?" Melissa then told Mr. Peeler that if there were other people on the property there is no way to know if the evidence collected was legitimate, and the American Bigfoot Society would not risk losing equipment that would be left on his property for surveillance purposes.
Mr. Peeler told Melissa at this time that he had no interest in being involved with Mr. Biscardi, but did tell Melissa, he had given verbal consent for Mr. Biscardi and team to come to his property, but that he would not allow access. Mr. Peeler also assured Melissa that he would no longer allow access to other Bigfoot investigators.
Melissa then thanked Mr. Peeler for his time, and Mr. Peeler thanked Melissa and assured her he had confidence in the American Bigfoot Society investigator and would be working with him, as he was able to get along very well with the American Bigfoot Society investigator. When Melissa spoke with the American Bigfoot Society investigator after this phone call to Mr. Peeler, the investigator also agreed that he felt he had a good rapport with Mr. Peeler and felt he could work with Mr. Peeler.
On June 21st, 2010 Melissa noted internet reports of Biscardi and a team from "Searching for Bigfoot Inc," being on the property, owned by Mr. Peeler. Melissa immediately called the American Bigfoot Society investigator to ascertain what he knew about this turn of events. The American Bigfoot Society investigator reported that he had spoken with Mr. Peeler that morning, and an investigation team associated with Tom Biscardi had, in fact, stayed on the property the weekend of June 18th, 2010 (although this was not disclosed in the media by the Searching for Bigfoot Inc. Team). The American Bigfoot Society investigator then told Melissa that Mr. Peeler had charged, and the team associated with Tom Biscardi had paid $25.00 to stay on the property. It is unclear if this was $25.00 per person, per night or if this was a flat fee for the entire weekend. Mr. Peeler informed the American Bigfoot Society investigator this charge was for electricity, due to extension cords being run from his home, and other expenses as Mr. Peeler stated he could not afford to put up people at his personal expense.
Melissa discussed this issue with the American Bigfoot Society investigator. Melissa informed the investigator working with Mr. Peeler, that the American Bigfoot Society does not pay investigators for access to property. The American Bigfoot Society investigator assured Melissa, he would not pay witnesses. Both Melissa and the investigator expressed their dismay with the appearance of Tom Biscardi or anyone on this property, although it is unclear whether Tom Biscardi himself was on the property or even in the state. Mr. Peeler told the American Bigfoot Society investigator it was simply a group associated with Tom Biscardi, although news reports stated differently.
Melissa and the American Bigfoot Society investigator discussed this turn of events, and the investigator decided he would talk to Mr. Peeler and inform him that if it was his intention to continue to allow others on the property, he would not be interested in researching his encounter.
On June 25th, 2010, Melissa received a phone call from the American Bigfoot Society investigator, informing her that Mr. Peeler had called and left a voicemail on his answering machine. Mr. Peeler informed the American Bigfoot Society investigator that he would not be able to allow the investigator access to the property unless he paid $25.00.
Again, it was unclear as to whether this was a one time fee of $25.00 or a per day charge for access.
Mr. Peeler informed the American Bigfoot Society investigator he needed money and could not afford to let all these people on his property without being reimbursed.
Melissa asked the investigator, "What was your response?" The investigator stated he informed Mr. Peeler he would not be returning to the property as he does not pay witnesses, and the American Bigfoot Society does not pay witnesses for their reports.
The American Bigfoot Society has no issue with reimbursing witnesses for expenses such as electricity used while on the property or other expenses related to an on scene investigation, but, the American Bigfoot Society will not pay for access to any property. This was clearly an access charge, as such it was decided to not go forward with an investigation of this property.
Investigation of this property concluded June 25th, 2010, with no formal investigation conducted.
